There are headlines drifting around that certain GOP figures are claiming that the party is pro-gay and for equality. Along with our chief editor, we have decided to test that claim by first doing some simple math. Our test included to see how many elected republican officials across the country have actually supported LGBT rights. We included for the sake of this report alone only those elected to state legislatures and the federal congress.
We have found that only 31 out of a total 4,271 GOP officials currently in office, or 0.0072582% , have supported such pro-gay legislation. It is a pretty dim picture and a pathetic number if you ask us.
So all of those claims that the GOP is 'LGBT-friendly' or a political ally are all based on wishful thinking and not on the real facts. This is not to say that the democrats are angels either. They will soon face a test of their LGBT friendliness this year as they decide whether or not to include a gay marriage plank in their platform.
Currently the only political party that has included such plank is The Libertarian Party.
