Let GOProud Deal With Anti-Gay GOP On Its Own

By Jose Soto

Lately, the gay conservative group GOProud has received tremendous criticism for endorsing Mittens for president of the United States. We have Dan Savage, a soldier against anti-gay bullying, ironically calling the group 'house faggots.'

I'm neither impressed nor more sympathetic to Dan Savage's cause as it appears to me that Dan is about Dan and this is one of many occasions where he pisses away any respectability he might of have regarding his crusade against bullying. This is complete South Park irony at its best.

In the end, the childish and predictable knee-jerk reactions from Dan Savage only serves to embolden the gay conservative group and their project against liberalism, specifically gay liberalism. What this situation has become is nothing more than bad political theater and I have had about enough of that crap. Can't we just take what GOProud did with a grain of salt because after all it is a conservative group - seriously, who did we expect them to support? Obama?

The GOProud board just to let you know is filled with neo-cons who support the elitist globalist agenda of military intervention, nation building over seas, extreme zionism, restriction of free movement, taxing the poor and middle class, banker bailouts, privatization of public institutions like transportation, parks, schools, jails, water resources and the like, and taking away the social safety net for those who cannot take care of themselves. Obama doesn't seem too far off from that particular agenda, but Mittens is evenly squared on these issues, which makes him the ideal GOProud board member and the only person reasonable enough for them to support. I simply am stating these facts because I oppose GOPrpud's politics, but that doesn't mean that they are 'house faggots' or anything of the sort. They are gays with political views from the other side of the same coin.

But there are other questions I want to ask, and it is not to pick on GOProud or anything like that since I support gay organizations who want to make gay people visible anywhere and anytime. Does the group endorse Mittens' religious views (that of the Mormon faith) regarding homosexuality? Does he believe it is a sin and/or immoral? What makes your think that Mittens will do a better job with the economy? GOProud, you say that he is better because he was involved in the private sector... doing what exactly? What did Mittens produced? Did he made cars? Televisions? Computers? How many people with full time, high earning paying positions with medical benefits did he hired? How many industries did he helped rebuild?

If you actually do your homework you will find that Mittens is just a money hoarder. He made bets with other people's money and rigged the game so that he and he close associates can beat the casino. Lets face it: Mittens produces NOTHING. And please, do not tell me that derivatives, credit default swaps, insider trading is a commodity worth noting. It simply is not. Don't tell me that his great talent is devaluing some stocks and commodities and buying them up on the cheap and ripping off thousands of other investors as a good attribute. That is not 'talent.' That is theft. And though others might say that GOProud has endorsed a homophobe, I say Mittens' character is further compromised, at least with me, because he is more than anything else a thief.

So that discredits the whole "we support him because of the economy" meme.

Others have suggested that GOProud is being greedy, hence why they threw their tiaras in for Mittens.

Wrong.

We have gay liberals who are as greedy or even greedier than this small group of gays. There is Chris Hughes, founder of Facebook for example, who has made big bucks and nobody is complaining about that. Lets not forget that Nancy Pelosi, considered a hero to the gay community, has made a great fortune during this depression while others are bleeding massively. No, just like their political counterparts, GOProud worships power, at least those members who supported the endorsement. And just like other political groups they want to 'fit in' and chose the 'winner' in order to share in some of that power that comes with supporting a candidate for office. It is basically high school student council all over again.

But hear this GOProud: just like how Obama drifted away and threw some gays under the bus many times, be prepared to have your savior do the same to you. These power hunger elitists don't care about you, gays, gay conservatives, or anybody for that matter. All they care about is gaining and retaining power. That is all.

Then we come to another point that is quite interesting as well, what makes Mittens a 'conservative?' If we really analyze what Mittens has actually done, one can assume that most of his political moves were in fact 'liberal.' Here we have a candidate for president who is claiming 'conservative cred' but has no resume to back it up. Mittens has raised taxes, supported abortion, claimed he was to the 'left of Ted Kennedy on gay rights,' was for gun control, wrote Obamacare as governor, implemented thousands of new regulations in Massachusetts, on and on. If they have endorsed someone a little bit more genuine, maybe I would have looked the other way and not bother with this at all (someone like Gary Johnson, who is endorsed by GOProud board member Chris Barron).

Lets be honest the endorsement of Mittens is not surprising at all. You might ask how can a group of gays do such a thing. Let me remind you that many gays endorsed Obama while he was blatantly opposed to gay marriage as well. But I, like many others, knew that Obama was bullshitting us since he supported gay marriage in 1996. And, as Signorile points out, maybe just maybe Mittens is also a rotten liar and GOProud knows it. Maybe Mittens is in favor of gay marriage but cannot risk losing his fascist social conservative neo-Nazi religious base. And that is understandable being that Obama has promised to close Gitmo, bring back our troops right away, pass ENDA, and repeal DOMA but of course he backtracked and failed to do so. Maybe Obama is secretly in favor of Gitmo? I mean, he did sign executive orders to keep it open and keep torture going at that base. And here, I think is where gay liberals have no cred on bashing GOProud for something they willingly did as well in the past.

What needs to be done is to leave GOProud alone. Don't distract its members from realizing that the conservative base is still heavily anti-gay, the same base their new found savior must court in order to win the White House. The more we tell them, the more we irritate them, the more we antagonize them, the more they are willing to fight us rather then the bigots in their own party. Let them see for themselves how loving the conservatives can be:

There is of course so much more incredible proof that, at least for now, the republican conservative base has gotten more anti-gay as the years go by than less. And it would wise for GOProud to do its homework and not just rely on close associates who are gay friendly, and claiming that THEY are the base of the party. GOProud needs to extend its understanding of how other real conservatives perceive the group, and to either deal with it or actually do something about it. But that is their own responsibility to do and not Dan Savage's, not even one of my favorite bloggers Michael Musto's. GOProud needs to look beyond Washington DC and the Cheneys, but if they refuse to do so, that is their right as well. But one right they do not have is trying to insult my intelligence and believe that I am stupid enough to consider the fact that the republican base is at all gay friendly. They have a right to believe in their delusions, but you and I not believing in those fantasies should not be construed as GOProud bashing but rather drawing our lines in the sand and the limits we impose on our imagination.
